Mutoid Man
Live @ Great Scott
Allston MA 06/04/17

I was sitting at the bar sipping a beer during sound check when I hear Stephen Brodsky begin to sing the words “You’re perfect yes it’s true…but without meeeee your only you” It was at that moment I knew I was in for a wild night. The fact that I am a huge Faith No More fan has little to do with this story, but it became clear to me really quickly that this band knew their “Musical shit” I mean, after all everyone knows the usual go to song is “Epic”. Regardless, I had a good feeling about the night.
Mutoid Man took the stage a little after 11pm. No intro song was needed as they instead opted to whip each other with a leather belt. Each took turns smacking the other, seemingly as an attempt to get the adrenaline flowing. I think it worked because the Mutoid Man lit Great Scott in Allston on fire that night. They started the party off with the song “Friday the 13/8” and proceeded to tear through a 13 song set. The guys played 6 songs off of their album including “Melt your mind, Kiss of Death and then finally cooling the night down with “Bandages” before finishing the crowd off with “Bridgeburner” Screaming out “Bring on the force!!!”
This concert was an all-out brawl, cymbals crashing to the ground high speed punch to the face. Mutoid man was quite honestly one of the best live shows I have ever seen. The fact that it was the very first show of the new tour didn’t seem to phase them at all. They played as tight as if they had been doing this for a very long time. I have heard one review describe them as the “New Van Halen” and I think that description might be fitting. I think headlining arena shows is just around the corner for this truly bad ass band. These guys sure know how to party! Check the remainder of their tour with Helms Alee.
