Last week the finalists for the Krockathon battle of the bands were announced live via Facebook. Three finalists were announced and are now set to open for Shamans’s Harvest at The Lost Horizon, Syracuse on 7/11. Get tickets (Here) We recently had the opportunity to catch up with the second of 3 finalists Glen Street. Glen Street is a Utica, NY based Rock band. This is what they had to say about being chosen as a finalist and what the rest of 2017 holds for them.
So how do you feel about being chosen by KROCK for the battle of the bands? Did you expect to be picked?
– We are extremely grateful for this opportunity. There were so many talented bands that entered into this battle that certainly could have been picked over us. However, we’re confident in our abilities and are looking forward to rocking the Lost Horizon again! Regardless of the outcome, we are going to enjoy ourselves and appreciate the opportunity of what’s going to be a great night of music.
Could you tell us a little bit about how Glen Street got started?
– As you might expect, the name was based on an actual street in New Hartford where the original lineup formed and rehearsed. The original band had formed when we were all about 15 years old and wanted to perform a few covers at our high school’s talent show. Over time we have experimented with different styles of music and have evolved into something completely different from what we started from. Glen Street has gone through many lineup changes over the past 5 years, however all members have been deeply involved in music in one way or another for our entire lives.
How would you describe your band to people who have never heard your music?
-We like to keep an interesting mix of many different influences in our music with our roots remaining in alternative rock. We’re a grungy yet groovy rock alternative mix. Our primary focus is staying true to ourselves and doing what we love, which is creating music and bringing people together.
You guys faced some pretty great competition for this contest. Who are some of your personal favorite local bands?
-Falling From One, Enemy Down, The Northmen, Blame Anchor, Into Shadow, Autumn Fire, and Substanance. All of them are incredibly talented and supportive.
Aside from being chosen for this battle of the bands, what has been the highlight of your musical career thus far?
-The highlight of our musical career thus far was when we got to open for Nonpoint at the Watertown Exhibition Center. 6. If you could tour with any 3 national acts who would they be? Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kings of Leon, Cage the Elephant.
What’s the rest of 2017 hold for Glen Street? New Recording? Shows?
We have plans to rebrand ourselves and are going to be heading into the studio later this year to record some new songs. Also we have plenty of upcoming shows this year that we will be updating on Facebook and Instagram. Our love for the music and the relationship we share as musicians has given us a motive to go full time with the band.
