ROYAL BLOOD at Upstate Concert Hall

Royal Blood is simply a two piece band. Just two men, One drummer, Ben Thatcher and one Vocalist/Bass Guitar Player, Mike Kerr. However, when you experience them live it’s as if they are 5 men performing to a crowd of thousands. The members of Royal Blood, are as talented and technically perfect live as you could possibly get. I have had the privilege of seeing my fair share of “Mega Huge” UK based bands, The Arctic Monkeys, Muse, and Blur to name a few,  Royal Blood can hold their own with any of these bands and then some. I  wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I agreed to go to the show at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park NY.  I have heard some of their songs on the Radio, “Out of the Black” and most recently “Hook, Line and Sinker” but it didn’t quite dawn on me until mid set that all these two do is write hits.

I feel like we are in the middle of fucking nowhere but it’s great awesome to see so many of you out here for us tonight” was a sentiment yelled to the crowed halfway through the set by Mike Kerr. Yes, Clifton Springs is not the center of the music world, however Upstate music hall has become one of the premier venues in New York State. The venue had most definitely reached capacity this night. The crowd continued to scream the lyrics of every song. Personally, I had no idea they were as popular as they are but after seeing them live it’s no longer a surprise. Overall, This was one of the top 10 performances I have seen this year and I have been to quite a lot of shows. An hour or so of straight British born rocking later and I had left Upstate Music Hall a fan of Royal Blood.
